FREAK FACTOR

#4 Dont try to fix your weakness
I agree with his suggesstion that our weakness are also a part of our strengths in that through our weaknesses we can find our strengths. I think that this is valid in that if we focus on our strengths we can do better than if we worry about fixing our weaknesses. He says that if we remediate a weakness, it still doesnt become a strength, and i fully agree with this... someone might be bad at baseball and though they could practice every day to get better they will never be as good at is as someone who is naturally a good baseball player. However i do not agree with the Freak fallacy: that i can be whatever i want to be.... because i truly believe that you can be whatever you want to be as long as it agrees with what you are capible of.

#8 The power of uniqueness
The quote that "great spirits have always experienced violent opposition from mediocre minds" by albert einstein... has really rang a bell with me. In my experience i have noticed this happen in multiple circumstances. I want to explain that i feel, have always felt, and will always feel that i have no other purpose on this earth than to be a musician and to provide meaningful music to other people of this world... I grew up being obsessed with music and quickly grew into the metal scene... i was the lead singer and lead guitarist of a metal band for three years and we played over 50 shows together all over ohio, pensylvania, and indiana... It was the best and most fulfilling times of my life. when i got to college the people i hung out with were really into hip hop and i soon followed and gained a love for hip hop. i am now in love with hip hop more than any other music out there... the sole idea of RAP just makes me excited... not even the beat, just rhymic poetry over a beat is intestering to me... so i started rapping. i try to publically rap whenever i can but being a white surburban boy not many people take me seriously... but i will tell you right now there is nothing i care about more in my life other than my rap... it has become a part of me and i aspire to be a legendary lyricist and MC.... the sad thing is that i will enthuisastically rap for certain people and i will get a shitty response that i can tell the person who responded is holding something back. i know that i am good and i know that other people think that i am good but there are always going to be people who can recognize talent but they dont want to acknowledge it because they are afraid of it... and to be honest that is the only thing that to this day still limits me... i want everyone to be able to understand my craft and see it for what it is and not for success... I dont give a shit about being famous. i just want to fucking rap because it has become the main way that i express myself today.

# 9 putting your quirks to risk..
i wish with all my heart that i could quit school right now and focus on my music career but unfortunately i cant. i saw an interview with James Brown that put it into perfect perspective, he said, " its not about money its about freedom, and unfortunately you have to make money to buy freedom... freedom isint free." i 100% agree with this. we cannot do what we fully want to do unless we are financially stable. Another thing he explains is that we should affiliate with people who are strong where i am weak... and i completely agree... when it comes to business i need to find people who are passionate about what i am passionate about but have different talents that could help me and that person could use the talents that i have to help them... He says to find the freak in others and i completely agree... everyone has a freak... just such few people understand taht.

GAMING REFLECTIONS

I believe that our game was pretty well understood "ET TU DRAGON" It was simple and did not have really any confusing aspects. The only thing that may have not gotten across to the audience would have been if the person does not understand the idea of an RPG and how it works. But however since most people do know i felt that people not only understood our project but were entertained. I think that the strongest point of our presentation was the way that we presented it, as a pitch. I think that our blog could have been stronger if all of the members had the same composure as Pete Fumosa did. He is the reason it was so funny and he just has that type of attitude that is perfect for this kind of thing. If all of us had dressed up and were able to keep our composure like that it would have almost been like a comedy routine with a presentation as the medium.

For ET TU DRAGON the RULES were the most difficult to discuss with others. Because our game is the sandbox type game the character has a free roam, however certain areas are locked and one must complete tasks in order to enter those areas. as for the attributes, one must complete certain tasks, defeat enimies, acquire a skill in order to get attribute points. Essentially the rules of the game are based off of what attributes you have and how much of each attribute you have. Because these attributes control what your player can do, they are the essential feature of the game.

Real Hero/Villain Reflection

John Wheeler's blog --> John's Blog

MOVEMENTS
John's animation was simple and his character, Fulton, who seems to be a version of the grim reaper is a slow moving and simple moving one. The PARALLEL MOVEMENTS that Fulton has is when he flexes his muscles. the only OVERLAPPING MOVEMENTS were when he tossed his sythe to the robot. The character did not show WEIGHT. This video did show some TENSION and RELEASE, The entire animation the audience is waiting for something to happen when Fulton is just standing there, and then finally after flexing his muscles, he snaps his fingers and a robot comes in, For a couple seconds one wonders is fulton will fight the robot, or just what might happend, until the tension is released and he tosses the sythe to the robot letting the audience know that they are both on the same team.

COLOR
Pete did a good job of using colors in order to show character. He used light HUES for Mr. Doctor, the Protagonist, and darker redder Hues for the Antagonist. Unfortunately the characters didnt change in BRIGHTNESS or SATURATION, it was mainly one tone per characther and each color used in the piece had the same BRIGHTNESS and the same SATURATION. As for TEXT and SUBTEXT the person in the audience needs to know who Charles Manson is in order for the animation to make sense and be funny.

Blog 7 Video reflection

The video assignment was my favorite assignment of the quarter. Writing out a Screenplay and then having it come to life on screen was a fun and cool experience.  Im currently working on another screenplay for a music video that i cant wait to put on film. Whats really cool about this class is that it made me feel less scared about putting media out there, whatever it is.

Moving on,
Our two videos were completely different from storyline and style. The first was the Star wars video which was really fun for me because i stared in it and wrote the screenplay. Second was the bicycle accident video. The biggest difference between the two videos for me was the Rhythm of each movie. The star wars video had a rhythm of a storyline and there were different things happening that the main character did as opposed to the bicycle video where the rhythm was smooth throughout until the accident happened. it had a simpler rhythm than the star wars video. Closely related to the rhythm of each movie is the movement. what was comparative of each movie was that each accident happened pretty abruptly. Each movie also showed text and subtext. For example when the bottles were given to the main characters in the text it showed and seemed like the girl was just being polite by giving the man the bottle first, however subtextually had a plan and tried to screw the guy over in the end. I consider this subtext because she said one thing but really meant it in a way that was not apparent to the audience, and then it twists

4A Acknowledging the Lizard

BRAINWASHED

Each One of these manifesto's i read i become more and more into the ideas that are trying to be portayed in the class. I Agree with 90% of what all of these manifestos are saying, especially this one. I completely agree that we were all raised and taught to conform and become drones for the education system. This was evident for me in gradeschool, in high school, and even sometimes in college. I remember being in fourth grade and i had a teacher who was the type of teacher who only followed the rules and very strongly believed in power and dicipline. I remember this so vividly because it has changed the way that i participate in class to this day. I would always ask questions and never just accept what the teacher said. I needed to know for sure, i needed to fully understand things. Until one day, my fourth grade teacher took me out of the classroom and scolded me asking me, "why do you always have to ask so many questions?" I remember feeling terrible for it and feeling like i should no longer ask questions. Only now do i realize how detrimental that was to my educational career.

School has just never been my thing, though. School was always the last thing on my mind. It was always the thing that seemed the least important to me. Still does. I fucking hate school. I believe its an outdated system run by an outdated generation who believe tradition is where the success of the future lies. However, i believe this is horribly wrong. I believe traditions are good to an extent, but i also think that placing too much emphasis on tradition only hinders the advancement of new ideas and breeds conformity. Tradition and conformity are "the resistance's" friend.

As explained by Godin the lizard brain is a prehistoric brainstem that doesnt like to be laughed at. That wants to fit in with all the rest. It makes being an outcast ones worst nightmare and becasue of this it shuts down out creativity and blocks us from making original art because what Godin calls, "the resistance," keeps our head down and drives us to follow instructions. He goes on to explain that in order for us to be successful and to be creative we need to accept, or acknowledge that the lizard is there and by doing that we are able to continue with our creative output because of our conscious knowledge of the sillyness the Lizard brain actually controls us with.

The other layer that i found to the the most interesting is the SHIP layer. This idea is the idea that if you can get something of yours out the door and place a product out there than you are ahead of the curve and it makes your competitors cringe in fear. According to Godin this is a rare skill that not many people are confident enough to do. Being able to do this helps to inspire others to do the same. But in order to be able to do this, one must be able to acknowledge and quiet the Lizard.

I think that the SHIP layer is closely related to what we are doing this quarter. By having all of our projects posted on a public forum it helps to also acknowledge the lizard and quiet the resistance. However i believe in order for one to fully understand and embrace these principles, he/she needs to take the initiative to SHIP his/her own work, outside of class. By making the projects a requirement, it immediately takes out at least 50% of the creativity, beacuse the composer is not freely doing it, he is being told to. Also because the works are graded, the artist may focus only on completing the assignment   according to the assignments requirements and rubric. There are too many rules and speculations for the projects that take almost all of the creativity out. However there is still room for creativity, but thats only when the artist feels compelled to be creative, otherwise these projects are just like projects for any other class, time consuming, and half assed. And if the projects  arent half-assed, handed in on time, not done at the last minute and seem too perfect to be true, this just shows a sign of a person who has accepted their position as a compliant person, who will do the work they are told to get done, when they are told to get it done, just because they want to get good grades to get a good job out of college. In my opinion this type of student is just another brick in the wall, another product of the education brainwashing system in the United States that is School
I also think that group work is bullshit. It is always an extreme hassle to work with a group, and i understand that for most media professions group work is inevitable. In the same breath by making one constantly work in a group, he/she is always expecting someone else to perform thier required part of the project, instead of promoting individual creativitiy, it promotes conformist collaboration.
My suggestion for projects and what might be better use of the class about the creative process would be to make each student create a work of art within his/her own specialty (whatever major he/she is in, if they dont have a major make them pick one) then at the end of the quarter have them turn in one project which would be a, song, movie, etc, and along with that a strong sort of thesis on what he/she believes the creative process to be. I think it would be really interesting what things people would bring in for their final projects.

3A UNDER PRESSURE

Under Pressure- Queen & David Bowie

Under Pressure - The Used & My Chemical Romance

Under Pressure is one of my all time favorite songs and will always remain a special song to me. I chose this song and cover because the first time that i heard the cover was when The Used and My Chemical Romance performed it together on stage at the Taste of Chaos tour in 2005.  I remember it being one of the first concerts that i went to, alone at least. It was an amazing concert and at the end of the show My Chemical Romance returned to the stage to Join the Used in a duet performance of Under Pressure. I was not too familliar with either of these bands when i first saw them play at this show, But i will always remember them coming together on stage to perform this song live. It was one of the coolest things ive ever seen at a concert and ive been to endless ammounts of concerts.
The Used and My Chemical Romance do an amazing job with this song. Being that it is a classic song by the one and only Queen and then never forgetful David Bowie, its almost sacreligious to remake this song. The Original is perfect in every sense and is the type of song that transcends time. Freddie Mercury was truly a genius for what he did and his voice was angelic. At the time The Used and My Chemical Romance were relatively small bands and for them to perform such an audacious cover was iffy. Nevertheless, they killed it and the song is a rocker.
The Used and My Chemical Romance, use the same LYRICS, The same MELODY, and the same ORGANIZATION for the song, that was used in the original version. This is very respectable of the bands because Under Pressure is  a song that no one should even begin to think about rearranging or rewording, especially after the late, Freddie Mercury.  THe melody is another thing that should not be changed in this song. The song is just classic, and no one should attempt changing a classic.
Initially what we first notice when we first hear the songs is the SPEED that The Used/My Chemical Romance used for their cover. The Queen version clocks in at around 112 BPM (beats per minute) and the Used/My Chem version clocks in at about 130 BPM. Although this is not too much faster, It is fast enough to make an audible difference, and the Used/My Chem version sounds a little more upbeat and foreward moving than the original.
Usually if i had to pick between an original and a cover, i am either on one or the other side of the scale. However, for this song and cover i am surprising neutral. Now to be fair if i HAD to choose one to listen to i would choose the Original by Queen and David Bowie. Nevertheless, i would be equally satisfied listening to either of the versions because i think the Used/ My Chem did a fantastic job. Not to say that they measure up to the greats, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, when it comes to vocals, but Bert McCracken (The Used) and Gerard Way ( My Chemical Romance) both have terrific voices and i dont think two better frontmen could have teemed up to do  a cover of this classic song.

5a reimagining Visual Framing

This picture by Sally Mann makes quite a statement. The girl in this picture is probably under ten years old yet she is smoking a cigarette. This is why i was originally drawn to this picture because you don't usually see children smoking cigarettes. However, the way that she is holding the cigarette also has just as much to say about the girl than does the cigarette. She is holding the cigarette and is standing in such a way that says to the viewer, "this isint new for me," or "Ive done this before." Her face also says that she is bored with what is going on around her. What is very visually attracting to this picture also is the way that it is framed and how the LINE AND SHAPE of the picture mesh together to make this picture. The three people in the picture are standing upright and it creates three columns, or divides the picture into three. The picture is set up in a way that makes the girl in the middle the center of attention besides the fact that she is centered in the picture she is also taller than the girl to the right, and she is shorter than the boy in the back to the left.
There is also a horizon line which separates the girls from the boy in the back giving the picture much DEPTH. The person in the back, who seems to be jumping on a trampoline or possibly just standing on something, is either a child like these girls, or it could be an adult or someone older than these girls. If the person in the back is an older person than the picture gains more depth because he would have to be much farther away. If it is a child then the boy is not as far from the girls giving it less depth, but depth is still very relevant.
The picture also has a very strong VISUAL MOVEMENT AND RHYTHM. From right to left the figures in the picture continue to get taller making the movement of the picture a diagonal line from the bottom right to the top left of the picture. However when one starts to look from the bottom right and move diagonally left toward the top right, he/she gets caught in the gaze of the girl in the middle. who on which the emphasis is.
I chose to crop the picture to just emphasize on the girl smoking because i think that she is the most interesting part of the picture. Like i said before the way she is standing says to me "ive done this before"  or possibly, "ive been here before." I also chose to crop the picture this way because it makes it an entirely new picture. It crossed my mind that maybe Sally Mann wanted to show that the girl was bored and having her holding a cigarette and standing how she is standing is just an exaggeration of boredom. Becuase of this i want to argue the case for CONSCIOUS and SUBCONSCIOUS. Maybe consciously the girl is there with her friends and is enjoying her time outside by the trampoline, but subconsciously, and how she is portrayed in the picture, she is very bored and is looking for something new, maybe in life, maybe a new game. Or maybe she is the type of person who needs to be at the center of attention, and when she is not, like in the picture, whatever else is happening around her doesnt really matter.
Lastly this picture is a great example of CONTRAST AND AFFINITY. almost the entire picture is dark except for the girl holding the cigarette and the boy's shirt in the background. This poses two possibilities, that either Sally Mann just wanted to emphasize the girl in the middle by contrasting her with all of the dark colors in the picture, or that because the boy is also wearing white, the two have some sort of connection. Maybe the girl smoking has a crush, and she is annoyed by the fact that the other girl is there with her, when she could be spending time alone with her crush. But i think that Sally is just trying to emphasize the girl smoking.

Find Your Howl

Find Your Howl

the link above is a link to an article called find your howl. It is about finding what is is about you that makes you, you. The story is about the red wolf who is becoming extinct. Environmentalists take this endangered species out of the wild and into a controlled space to make sure they don't become extinct. When the wolves produce offspring they send a wolf, Mumon, out into the wild to see what he can do. In the story Mumon meets a deer that explains to him that he knows what is howl is but he is just trying to hard to find it. Mumon eats the deer but then feels remorse. Ravens then come and pick the deer clean of any meet and then talks to Mumon telling him that he needs to not feel ashamed for what he did by killing the deer. He needed the deer in order to live and because of that Mumon should not feel remorse. finally Mumom is travelling along and seems to fall into a dream where he is at the center of the earth. Here he finds a tribe celebrating around a fire dressed in the red fox costume at this moment mumon walks into the fire, hears the beat of the drum and howls. After he is finished he is no longer in a fire and around a tribe but he is surrounded by other red wolves and they are all howling at the moon.

WIth this story Flaum is trying to explain to the audience that in order to find who you really are you need to put all bias aside and let go of the past. You need to see with new eyes and instead of thinking about who you are, you need to learn to just know who you are.

Id like to think that i have found my howl. As an aspiring musician my whole life the only thing that has ever really made sense to me was music, and being able to express myself through it. Although i grew up listening to metal i have a love for hip hop and the idea of a rhymic poem over a beat. When i was young i was always obsessed with lyrics. ever CD i have ever owned i have read the lyrics, even the band member thank you's in the jacket of the cd. I am obsessed with lyricism and my howl is a few verses that i wrote for the song family business by Kanye West.

HOWL

Ways to get ideas.

14 ways to get new ideas

Above is an article by Mitch Ditkoff who writes about ways one can generate new creative ideas. They are sort of helpful hints more than they are ways to get ideas, like guidelines. The article goes through fourteen different ways from brianstorming to becoming social and meeting new people to create new connections. MItch talks alot about honing in on ones craft and to not get too antsy or excited because that could kill the idea or stress you out too much where you don't even want to think about it anymore. I dont necessarily agree with all of the ways the he puts forth mainly because all people are different and have a different way of doing things, however that is just my opinion. The next person who reads his article may completely agree with a certain idea of Mitch's that i completely disagree with. I think this article is very versatile in which every person could find at least a few ideas of Mitch's that they like. I dont want to go too in depth because my bias could affect the next persons bias but here are a few examples of ideas that i liked of Mitch's.

Idea number five "Fantasize"
I have always been a big advocate of stick to your dreams. If you really want to do something and i mean really truly, deep down want something with your life, you can do it. However, i must say that you should be able to take a look at yourself from an outside point of view and see what your strengths and weaknesses are. After you can judje yourself and believe that you can do something then go do it. And when you are doing it dream about it, make it something that when you do get to do it you are excited about it. Maybe you are a film student and you want to one day be a writer for a big production company and write for feature films or maybe a sitcom. If that is you "dream," your aspiration for life, where you believe nothing would make you happier than you should dream that one day you will make it to where you want to be, but for now you are just at the beginning of the ride. I think that having a dream and not letting that dream slip away because society tells you that you should just fall into the flow and become another drone to the world, is what makes America so great. We all have one life and one opportunity to do what we want with it. Why not dream? why not motivate yourself to get to where you want to be and become a successful person on your own terms. Dream Big, Be Humble.

Idea numer 9  "Notice and challenge existing patterns and trends"
This idea is great. It explains that we should begin to look at markets and notice what is trending and what is not. Find what is popular and and maybe use that as a staring point. However dont try to just make a remix, or redo an idea. Build from the idea, take it for what it is and then morph it into something that is your own. Start to become analytical, see things for what they are and not for what your bias says or what his bias says or what anybody's bias says because most likely his or her bias is only a bias because someone else had that bias before. Learn to become analytical of the market and see what it flourishes in and what it is devoid of, try to find something missing as if the market were a puzzle piece and you are the enthusiast. Trust me there are going to be a lot of puzzle pieces to choose from and you might try endless amounts of pieces to fit in the spot, but never stop because when you do find the right piece the reward will be bittersweet.

Idea number 12 " Look for happy accidents"
Mitch tries to explain here that instead of dwelling on trying to find the next creative idea or forcing it to come, to let it just happen and let the idea evolve. If we dwell on just finding the solution to the problem and never step away from it we may never get to see if from a different angle. By stepping away from it and letting the idea marinate in your oven like brain, when you come back to it, it might look different to you, and you might think of what could make it even more perfect but in a different way that you didnt think of before.  Also by letting the idea in your head just sit you arent just forgetting about it, it will be present and it might even come out in conversation you have with friends or new acquaintences. For instance you could bring up an idea you have been messing with in conversation and someone might say something that you didnt expect them to say or say something of a different aspect and that could help your idea. Its important to remember that many good ideas become better ideas if you bounce them off of another person. By not expecting something to happen or by not trying to make something happen it just may.

FInal Prompt Number 9
WHat trends in the marketplace most intrigue you?
As an aspiring musician i am always following what is going on in the music scene, for me specifically the Hip Hop Scene and the Metal Scene. What most intrigues me in the marketplace is the variety of artists that there is out there. But at the same time there are so many artists who are doing the same thing and making the same music. This intrigues me because i feel that i have an edge. And to be an artist i want to have that Vibe like Underoath has or like Lil Wayne has, No one else sounds like them and they cannot be mistaken. They are the actual artists within the scene amongst all the posers and wannabes.
In what ways might these trends shift in the coming years?
I think that people are beginning to realize that many artists do not have that much talent and have just been pushed by a label to make pop songs that will sell. People are beginning to see past all of the Celebrity gimmick and are starting to demand artists who are real and dont follow a crowd or say something because its popular to say. People are starting to demand individuality.
And how might your most inspired idea be in sync with this imagined shift.
If i know anything after 20 years of being alive in American and on Planet Earth is that i am very different than a lot of people and that i have a different way of thinking than other people. Basically i know who i am, what i value, what i want, and where i am headed, and even if my ideas are not completely in sync with this imagined idea, i dont care. I only have one life, i'm going to do what i want.

Who influences me as a creative person (Blog 1A entry)

Being a musician myself there are so many artists that inspire my work.  I feel that there is not a definitive genre of creative person that i fit into. If i had to name it i would consider myself a creative perfectionist. i can be creative in many ways but whenever i create i have a need to perfect it and even when i complete a work i am never fully satisfied with it, there is always more i could do, or something i could change, nevertheless living in a society built on schedules and deadlines, its hard to be the perfectionist.

I listen to many different types of music and respect all genres and varieties. I grew up on heavy metal and hip hop so most of my favorite artists are members of the respective genres.  The artists that i will analyze are, the metal band Underoath, Rap's rebel Emcee Lil' Wayne.

Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear - Underoath

The Link contains a song by the band who's songs are usually driven by heavy guitars and screaming, however this shows a softer side of the band.  The song is undoubtedly about God, however, the quality and musicianship of the song transcend religion and it is a good song regardless of ones beliefs. The band really embraces the concept of Tension and Release. not only in the posted song but also throughout all of the band's released work.  In the posted song there is a constant build of tension with slight release thoughout the song, until the end when all of the tension is released and Underoath's true emotions are released.  What i truly love about this band is that they have a unique style that no other band on the scene can mimic or in my opinion outdo Underoath. With seven album releases the band has truly evolved over time while still staying true to the roots of who they are.  Contrast and Affinity, is evident in all of Underoath's music. Many bands focus on either screaming and or singing, whereas Underoath does not really focus on either, when i listen to Underoath i don't hear what they are trying to do, i hear what they are doing, and if there is screaming it sounds like it should be there, the same goes for singing. In many Underoath songs the band will have a fast paced, heavy guitar, scream saturated part followed by an extremely mellow, almost acoustic sound, with the poppy voice of Aaron Gillespie the former drummer and singer of Underoath. Underoath is truly a very interesting band to listen to even if Metal is not your forte.

Underoath - Salmarnir

Underoath's music also uses Conscious and Unconscious sounds and ideas which makes their music more personal to the listener.  For example in an interlude song on the band's fifth release, Define The Great Line, there is a prayer said in Russian in the background behind the leading guitars and steadily slow drum line.  Since Underoath is a Christian band they always promote prayer and worship of Jesus Christ, However the theme of religion is more an unconscious thought when analyzing the lyrics of the band, making it easier for a non believer to enjoy and listen to Underoath.  This song is attributed more to the unconscious side of the mind of an Underoath Listener. It is a moment of bliss among a cacophony of screams, shrieks, and heavily distorted guitars. The last three albums that the band has released all have this same quality of complete versatility while keeping their sound but pushing the boundaries of the sound to make it a fuller and more defined sound.
Lastly one of the the things about Underoath that i love is that for their most recent release the drummer Aaron Gillespie, the bands only remaining original member left the band due to differences. Aaron has a very powerful voice and was always exciting to listen to on the mic but with the last release its like Underoath did not even skip a beat when making the newest installment, Disambiguation. This is what i love about Underoath, Its not about the people, its all about the music.

Next i will briefly analyze the Rap artist Lil' Wayne.

Lil wayne is an interesting person. His lyrics are pretty straightforward but he has a lyrical form of using metaphors and crafty wordplay to make his lyrics entertaining, funny, and even making one think outside the box.
Birdman ft. Lil' Wayne - Fire Flame (remix)
The above video is a regular run of the mill hip hop video but my focus is more on the lyrics than the vibe of the song and the idea for the video. In particular i want to talk about a lyric that Wayne spits in his first verse in the song. He states, "Im so relaxed my gucci flats aint got a scratch, and if you got problems wit I, well I will fix them cataracts." This Lyric expresses the idea of Double entendre where he is saying one thing but he also says another thing. At first It makes sense that he would say if you got problems with your eye then he can fix your cataracts, not that i actually believe that he is an optometrist but in the world of wordplay anything pretty much goes. With a second ear listening to the same lyric one can also hear Wayne saying If you got problems with I, as in Wayne himself. Some people may not catch this however being a avid lil wayne fan for a long time you being to get what he is talking about just by his vocal inflection and just by the persona he displays.
